Respect for People, Communities, and Cultures:

We seek to foster mutual respect between our tutors and students. It is an expectation that our volunteers are equipped with the humility and curiosity required to create a welcoming environment for students of all backgrounds. Likewise, it is our priority to encourage students to not only treat their tutors with respect, but also each other. 

Building Strong Relationships:

We believe that student success is maximized when our students are able to build trusted relationships with their tutors. Because of this, we aim to keep consistent, one-on-one tutor pairings when possible. We ask that interested volunteers consider whether they can commit to one night a week for a full semester of tutoring.  On an organizational scale, our team also welcomes opportunities to build strong relationships with local organizations whose missions align closely with our own.

Accountability:

It is a privilege to be a trusted resource for the families we serve. Because of this, we hold ourselves accountable to create a safe learning environment for our students. We prioritize student safety by completing background checks for incoming volunteers. We also hold ourselves accountable to safeguard any student information shared with us. We are mindful to not externally share the names or photos of our students without family permission. While we may share data about our organization’s progress to remain accountable to the communities we serve, we will only do so after anonymizing student information.
